PREMIERE
HOURGLVSS DEAD MAN'S HAND
Immeshed with spaghetti western theatrics, comes the new single from Brighton duo Hourglvss, which today we’re pleased to premiere. ‘Dead Man’s Hand’ marks the second release via Katie Benbow and Sophie-May Williams, who came together based on a love for fashion, art, and the music of Nancy Sinatra, Ennio Morricone and Judy Garland as their iconic influences. Their taste for the dramatic extends beyond listening habits, as we learn through the song’s backstory, as the band tells us: “It follows the story of a villainous character who is wanting to destroy anything and everything in his path to come up on top, however it doesn’t turn out that way and he ends up being shot and killed. We have both experienced different types of controlling natures in our pasts. This is essentially a metaphor for anyone who has ever been in a controlling situation, whether it’s personal or situational...for them to gain solace from the fact that they are stronger than what they are being controlled by.” Their judgement day single walks the line of experimental pop, backdropped by sauntering melodies, harrowing harmonies, desert heat and Texicana guitars. Hourglvss is a project which takes their deep love for Wild West mysticism and shares it generously with you, the listener. Check out their UK live dates here. - Hannah Thacker
